WANTED: 500 or 1000 count tin of needles

Post by Victor A »

Hi guys!

I just bought my first Victrola (a 1925 VV-35), and it only came with the needle it had in the reproducer. I definitely needs some work, and I'll probably be posting some more parts request in the near future.

But, I digress. If anyone happens to have a new tin of 500 or 1000 needles,(if that many are ever packaged at one time) that would be much, much appreciated, as I want to start using it ASAP.

Cheers!

I would highly recommend the needles that forum member Walt Sommers sells on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/381922937822. They're excellent quality, and reasonably priced.
If you keep your eyes open on eBay, you should be able to find original needles. These generally come in ~100 count tins.

Have fun with your new acquisition!

do a search on the forum for "Notenboom" or "zwarteschijf" This guy sells high quality bulk steel needles (2500 count boxes). He sells on Ebay too.

Modern needles are usually sold in envelopes or plastic bags, generally 100 at a time. I don't know of anyone who sells modern needles in tins because of the extra expense.

You can buy vintage needles in tins of 100 or 200 at fairly low cost. There are a few vintage tins of 500 or 1000, but they are harder to find and more expensive.

If you're buying the needles to use them, it's best to buy one of the modern brands. You could always find an empty vintage tin to hold them. You can find a few different suppliers on eBay. The usual suppliers recommended here also sell needles. Search the board and you'll find many threads devoted to the pros and cons of various kinds of needles.

Thanks guys, I'll check the ones on the forum out, as I don't have an ebay account. One last question. If anyone knows a seller on amazon prime, the info would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

I also add my vote for Soundgen's needles. For the last six years, I have consistently found them to be the best modern steel needles that I can find anywhere.

I have used Soundgen's needles for years with complete satisfaction, and if you watch his eBay listings you may find that occasionally he offers large quantities at a generous discount. Of course there are period needle tins containing larger quantities than the standard 200, but you will pay a premium for the tin with no guarantee that all the needles are unused :
