Easy replacement fix for Victor speed indicator windows

Post by barnettrp21122 »

I made a quick easy replacement window for one of my Victrola speed indicators of which the original had gotten too yellowed to see through. I used a bit of plastic cut from a produce container and trimmed it with a small scissors, holding the original against it as a template. It took about a minute to do!

I used a Campari Tomato pack. You may use a container from your favorite produce!
The original piece will be tucked away in a marked envelope in the machine for future owners.

Yes it is a great idea... I'll add that I did this type repair in 1994 on a VV-XIV and it still looks great. I used some fairly stout clear plastic packaging from something I had bought. I've did similarly a replacement on another machine a couple years later and it too still looks perfect. No yellowing so far on either one. The originals are store away in my spares box.

Great idea. I have been using clear acetate plastic for this repair and also for windows for my model train buildings. Now I will save and use these. It's much cheaper than the hobby shop.

New plastic material has improved from 80 years ago so the fixes probably will outlast the machine.. Real good information to know. It shows how ingenious we can be. Tom B
