I'm offering for sale my longtime "Daily Driver" Victor V phonograph, "Tina", short for "the patina monster" due to getting another V from another forum member.
This particular example is all original except for the turntable felt and horn elbow (which is a heavier duty aluminum replacement). The machine has the correct early "round needle hole" Exhibition reproducer, serial number 79682. It has been recently overhauled with new diaphragm gaskets and a new rubber mounting flange and sounds great.
For playing later electrical records, included is a later HMV "colonial" reproducer from approximately the late 1940s. It has been overhauled and tuned as well, and both reproducers are demonstrated in the attached videos.
This machine, while very imposing, functional, and presentable, is somewhat of a "patina monster" due to its originality. The nickel plating is wearing thin pretty much all over, and the gold and blue filligree on the back bracket is nearly worn away. (A new correct filligree decal for the back bracket is included.) Eventually, the nickel will need to be replated- in fact, probably 15 years ago I went over the nickel with "Rub N' Buff" silver restorer to even out the color a bit. It will easily come off with an acidic cleaner before replating if desired, but it's held up really well as the photos will show.
The original shellac finish coat is mainly worn now, but a furniture oil treatment a few times a year keeps it looking great, as you can see.
The motor was completely disassembled, cleaned, and re-greased, and the governor springs replaced, so it runs true to speed with no wavering.
Again- this is an imposing machine, being 16" square at the base, about 8" high not including the turntable, 32" high overall with a 23 inch bell on the horn, and probably weighs close to 40 lbs assembled.
In addition, for forum members only, I'm offering your choice of horn... the Victor Flower or black/ brass Victor V horn original to the machine. If you want both horns this can be done for an additional $300.00
$1450.00 for forum members, plus shipping. Shipping on these large horns has gotten positively brutal due to the new "dimensional weight" nonsense adopted by the USPS, FedEx, and UPS.
GREYHOUND shipping is a very reasonable alternative to the high price of the "Big 3", however, you'll need to pick it up at your local terminal when it arrives.
Forum member Jerry B. has also indicated he's willing to help the potential buyer by delivering it to Union or APS for a reasonable fee. Contact Jerry for details if this may work for you. With pre- payment in full, I'd certainly be willing to drive it an hour or so up to Albany to get it to Jerry to make the trip at no additional charge to the buyer from me to make the handoff.
Here's a video of "Tina" in action along with pics of the HMV reproducer I'm using for electric records that I posted in the Music forum:

Here's the machine using the Exhibition and playing the first side of the acoustic blue label Grieg piano concerto I have up for sale in my "Lousy Overpriced Records" ad:

Tina still needs a sugar daddy... Would consider a nice rear mount Victor E or a Victor 3 as part trade- maybe a big part depending on condition. I also think I forgot to mention that both horns are original paint and decals- you get your choice of original big Witch's Hat or flower horn... OR both horns for an extra $300...

Helluva good deal for the buyer of "Tina". One of the things that makes her so special is her patina so I would encourage the new owner not to get crazy on that finish. I would not to anything more than a gentle cleaning with Kotton Klenser, Gojo or some thing similar. Safe travels Tina!

She knows all the Bix sides by heart so she'll do well. If you have any issues (doubtful but you never know) you know where to find me. She's a great player and I'm sure she'll fit right in with her new guardians and siblings!Joe Busam wrote:Very cool indeed. Tina will have a good home here, George. It's a good deal for me, too, actually, because I know she's going to a very good home. No "upcycling" or "repurposing" worries at all here. Whatever improvements that may be performed will be done very well, I think.Valecnik wrote:Helluva good deal for the buyer of "Tina".
