Year of my C-250 Edison Diamond Disc Phonograph

I recently acquired a mahogany C-250 phonograph with an automatic stop and serial number 48150. Does anyone know the year it was made based on the serial number?

Do you mean a Duncan Automatic Stop? According to Frow, those were first supplied with the C-250 around April 1917.

Also, what sort of patent plate does it have: black background with silver lettering, or gold background with black or white lettering?

Yes, I have read your responses to my previous posts and once again am very grateful for the wealth of information that you have provided me especially with the articles relating to the EAS and don't recall or may have missed any reference to production date estimations.

Thanks for pointing me to your article on production date estimations. However, I'm getting an "Epic 404 - Article not found" message and can't access the article. Do I have to be a member of the APS to have access?

Hmm, I don't think so, Adolfo, and I'm sorry for the issue. I'm not signed into the site, and don't have any trouble with the link. I understand that the Introductory Articles are open for the general public to view, so I don't know why you're having trouble. I wonder if there's a problem with your browser settings, or something with the site?

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than myself in such matters can offer up an answer.

In the meantime, try this link to the website, find the "Articles" tab, click on it, then click on the tab "Introductory", and the first article that pops up should be my date estimates. I sincerely hope the information is still publically available.

In the meantime, (I wasn't trying to overcomplicate things, honestly), I estimate your C 250 as having been produced around the end of January, 1918.

However, when I click on "Read More" for yours I get the the first page followed by the two links at the bottom of the page to your two articles. And then when I click on any of the two links I get the "Epic 404 - Article not found" message. It may be a server error with the site. I'll try accessing your articles later to see if the problem has been resolved. I'm curious to know if any other members have experienced the same error.

Thanks for the information. Yes I'm referring to the Duncan Automatic Stop, also referred to as the Edison "Electric Automatic Stop" (EAS). And the patent plate is black background with silver lettering.

Based on some previous cursory research on the internet my C-250 was probably manufactured sometime during 1918 or 1919. I was just trying to narrow the date and based on Fran's response to my post he has an article that indicates it was probably manufactured around the end of January 1918.

I'll have to get a copy of Frow's phonograph book for reference.

I contacted the APS via email to inquire about my access issue. And a Board member made a modification to the site and now I have no issues accessing the two spreadsheets. I can see how you determined the manufacture date estimate of my C250 to be late January 1918. These are great spreadsheets for reference. Thanks for making them public!!
