SOLD: VICTOR MONARCH SPECIAL

Post by PHONOMIKE »

I have decided to sell off my collection and have reduced my prices for quick sales.

Here is my nice and very original pre-dog Victor MS with threaded spindle for a record hold down. I do not have the record hold down though. It has the original finish which is dull in a couple areas but is not bad and doesn’t take away from it’s beauty. The horn looks original as well with very few defects and has a nice decal. No chips out of the wood and the carved trim is also in nice condition. Overall they look great together. This is a rear mount horn unit but also has the front mount bracket as well. The license on the bottom of the case is 95% there and legible. It has an early serial number 7243. This puts it built in 1903/04. Look at the pictures and you can see how nice it looks.

It has a 3 spring motor with the spiral cut gears but it has a problem. When I wind it up it clunks and you can hear the spring unravel. To me it seems that 1 spring isn’t winding. It worked fine not long ago and it didn’t make any noise to suggest something broke. I always let them wind down fully and I think 1 spring might have come off it’s anchor when there was no tension on it. The turntable will still spin but it doesn’t get up to full speed. I’m only guessing on the spring being off it’s anchor but I don’t believe it’s too serious since it worked perfect not long ago.

PM me if you have any questions. Thanks.

Mike
