Hi All-- 40+ years of collecting and I'm working on my first VV-50-- New spring put in, governor cleaned and adjusted, etc-- Runs great, but some chatter noise. I have a fair amount of up and down movement in the spindle. Did the VV-50 use a ball bearing at bottom of spindle shaft? If so, what size? I tried a ball bearing from a later 2 spring motor and it is too large-- I'd appreciate some guidance.
Thanks!

There are at least 2 motor configurations on the VV-50. Do you have the type with the lift-off turntable, or the type that has a screw-on spindle/turntable holder? It may make a difference...

What I have done is go to a good hardware store, and bring the motor casting. Once you find the right size, buy several of these ball bearings to keep in stock. You may need these extra ones for additional projects. I am working on a Victor III motor, and I will bring the casting to get a stock of these ball bearings. It may be cumbersome, but you'll get the size you need. On a side note, the person will ask what this is for, and that's a good way to promote the hobby. Go to a real hardware store like Ace, or True Value or an independent. A good hobby or model shop is another place to check. Good luck with your VV 50.

52089-- Thanks for the reply-- I have the type with the screw on spindle/turntable holder-- I assume from the responses that it probably needs a ball bearing-- When I used one from the later 2 spring motor, the spindle gear screw did not line up with the detent in the spindle that fixes it at a certain point. So will look for a smaller bearing.

I have a 50 you can tear apart if you want to measure.
