And some stuff I'd be suspicious of....

Even the good stuff has been polished to the point where it's probably more glossy than it was when it was new. Who buys these things?

This guy has been selling on eBAY for a long time. He's always offering very high end stuff, some of it a bit over restored for my liking, and his prices are always up there.

That being said, if I were lucky enough to have some of the stuff he's offering and I decided to offer it for sale, I'd be asking pretty high prices too. He must have paid top buck for some of those nice pieces and I doubt he's making huge profits.

I'd love to have his Victrola XX but it's more than my bank account could bear for the forseeable future.

He and the XX were at Union. I didn't look at it up close since I wasn't spending big $$, but from 5 feet away it looked pretty darn nice. He was also at Orlando last year, guess that's a lot closer to home for him. I think he specializes in high end machines so the prices should be pretty high, right? But since he is still trying to move the XX, maybe he'd come down some if someone was really interested.

doesn't he have a retail web site as well? his prices do seem really high, but then again, his machines all seem quite rare - in the rarest sense of the word - and in extremely nice shape. then again, those darn prices... bah... had me wondering at one point whether his geographic location might have anything to do with it? or just the fact that he seems to specialize in the high end, rare and very nice variety of the things we love.

I think estott has a right to hold an opinion (or suspicion?) about anything and the abbreviation of "I would..." implies to me that it is simply an expression of his opinion, being as it's written in the first person and does not infer that any reader should automatically share his views. As the criticism implies, the validity of his opinion(s) will very likely only be ascertained by those readers who regularly view his posts anyway to appreciate and understand if they generally share his views and therefore, themselves, might also have cause for suspicion here. I think the words "You should....." would perhaps be more worthy of the criticism he's received.

Just MY 0.02 and MY opinion! ;)
