I'm diligently seeking an Edison model D reproducer and a drawer for my Edison Concert phonograph. Please help if you have one or both of these available. I'm pleased to purchase outright or I have lots of nice trade items as well if you would prefer trading.
Thanks,
Doug

This has nothing to do with what you're asking for, but I saw your post the other day about your concert acquisition! I saw a concert carriage arm on eBay yesterday that's for holding the standard reproducer to play normal cylinders (I think), and just wanted to let you know in case you were looking for those pieces as well.

Doug,
Since you're also looking for a drawer, I'm assuming you have the Spring Motor style Concert? If that's true, wouldn't a "B" reproducer also be correct, and easier to find, and cheaper? Just wondering...

You can install a stylus bar from a model C in place of the 4 minute bar. I did that with a model L for my 1A until I could find an M. I also agree with JerryVan's suggestion. In addition, the model B has an earlier style stylus, like that found in the Automatic, which many people say is better for brown wax than the doorknob style of the C.

Thanks for the alert on that. Unfortunately, that arm has been repaired so not of any interest to me.EdisonWizard wrote: I saw a concert carriage arm on eBay yesterday that's for holding the standard reproducer to play normal cylinders (I think), and just wanted to let you know in case you were looking for those pieces as well.
That said, however, I would be delighted to be able to use my recently acquired 4 minute model J reproducer. So I'm casually looking for a good original carriage like that one along with the appropriate mandrel/shaft/pulley assembly to play 4 minute cylinders on my Edison Concert.
Yes indeed! A "B" reproducer would fit and function nicely in my early style Concert carriage and, in fact, I have several nice original model B reproducers.JerryVan wrote:Doug, Since you're also looking for a drawer, I'm assuming you have the Spring Motor style Concert? But since the Edison Concert was equipped (as far as I know) only with an Automatic reproducer and (later) a model D reproducer I wanted to concentrate my search efforts on one of the original equipment reproducers.
Since I've had pretty crappy results with using any of the Automatic reproducers I own (I have at least 3 or 4 of them) I figured I should look for a model D.
I'm actually using one of my Edison model B reproducers right now in this Concert and it plays beautifully and the model B reproducer sounds great.
I've been playing through the day today some of the Concert cylinders that accompanied my recently acquired Edison Concert and I continue to be stunned at how beautiful (loud, crisp, clear) these Concert cylinders play.
It's no wonder that many of the original owners of these Edison Concert cylinders continued to want them until the bitter end of production. They are simply marvelous for the listening ear.
I was briefly contemplating that, Jim. But I didn't want to disturb anything on the model J reproducer. Early original model D reproducers (the ones I've seen anyway) use a different stylus bar than the model C. Model D reproducers have a stylus bar similar to the model B reproducer (and Automatic reproducer) in that the stylus faces directly down on the cylinder groove whereas the model C stylus is positioned at an angle in the stylus bar thereby meeting the cylinder groove at an angle.phonojim wrote:You can install a stylus bar from a model C in place of the 4 minute bar.
Thanks so much for all of your input and help!

Yes. That's the one. The description indicates that it has been welded which suggests injury to it at some point in the past. So not of any interest to me. But I do appreciate your courtesy in alerting me.
Thanks,
Doug
