WANTED: Nuts, Screws, washers for the Cygnet back bracket

Post by EdisonWizard »

Can be original or reproduction but I'd really like to have original. I got a bracket from a user on here! Thanks again!

Some 0f the hardware stores have the correct nuts and bolts. You may have to shorten the bolts to fit correctly. That could be your back up if no one has them. Tom B

Our local Lowe's has the right size bolts and nuts, if I can find the package I'll give you the info. They go through the bracket and into the cabinet and protrude about ½ inch inside the cabinet, leaving room for a washer and bolt.
By the way, I make my new brass bolts and screws look old byusing gun bluing. It is a cheap and easy way to make them look original. You just use a tweezer or needle nose pliers to dip the brass parts into the bluing It only takes 10 seconds or so to change the finish from bright brass to original looking dark blue/black. See the pics. Use gloves, and rinse the parts off when you are done and try with paper towel or soft cloth.

Wow great write up and demonstration. Very impressive. All the guns I have I never thought of bluing. If you don't mind let me know what sizes etc. I thought they had nuts and washers as well, that looks like a wood screw; unless that was for demonstration.

i'll have to take one of the bolts to the hardware store to match up size. I don't have the package anymore. They are exactly the right size though, and after the bluing treatment they look original. i'll get that info for you.

Ok, the sizes are: Screw - #8 round head brass machine bolts, 1-½". Nuts #8-32 and washers #8S. Here is a pic of one of the ones from my Triumph cygnet bracket. Hope this helps. By the way, this is for a Triumph. Standards and Homes may not need that long of a bolt, so measure the wall thickness of the cabinet, at the thickness of the bracket, and allow maybe ½ inch more for the washer and bolt. The washer goes inside the cabinet too. I've seen them with the washer outside the bracket!

Wow thank you so much! You ought to make this into a how-to and have the mods sticky it somewhere...I'm sure there are google searches that would greatly benefit from this!
