It's back at a reduced price and it does appear that the motor is mostly there. Someone went to a lot of trouble to ruin that spring cover. It might be a good parts machine if they would accept a more reasonable offer.

Well, they do have the "Make Offer" option enabled, so I guess they would take less...

That machine is totally restorable and would end up being a nice one... just a little work.

I agree that it could probably be restored. I was thinking of making an offer, but I would not pay the asking price.

This was talked about a while ago in another thread.

Re: Canadian Berliner on ebay, might be good for parts
I saw that earlier post, thanks. Some of it was pretty funny, but I am thinking along the line of restoration and I was hoping for input regarding an offer price and what people here thought about this as a restoration project. The cabinet looks to be fairly solid. Most of the motor and hardware seem to be present and potentially repairable. I think that the spring housing could be rebuilt by chamfering the openings and brazing in some matching curved plates, then re-plating it along that along with the other hardware. I can come up with the other parts including a reproduction reproducer. It would not be a cheap or easy restoration, but I think that it is doable, and I have the right equipment. Any thoughts?

My personal feeling is that it's ALWAYS admirable when a rarity is rescued from the parts bin. The entire process MAY be financially foolish, but still, it's not like they're making these any more. Passion should dictate your actions sometimes. I think if it were myself, and I could actually afford it, I would do that.Django wrote:I saw that earlier post, thanks. Really, it's your money, so only you can decide what the right offer would be. Just my opinion, not based on any estimation of its actual value, is to offer $800. Being that they currently want $1200, I feel that $800 is probably the max discount you could hope for. Is it worth $800? Hard to say, but if you fix it up nice it'll be worth that and more. The $400 savings might cover your out-of-pocket expenses, especially since you're thinking of a reproduction reproducer.

I think you should go for it! That reproducer you made was fantastic and I'm certain you have the skills to restore this one.Django wrote:I saw that earlier post, thanks.
