I have a nice restored first version of the Columbia AT, Serial Number 209342. It's all very clean except for a lot of rust on the bedplate. I recently happened across a very clean AT bedplate Serial Number 229111. Both have the identical motor mounts unlike the later AT bedplates with the adjustment to tighten the belt.
I figured that I would exchange the nameplates and put the nice shiny bedplate on my machine. I was very surprised to discover that the screw holes for the upper works did not exactly match up to my upper works. Some were almost a quarter of an inch off, even though I could see the shadow of the standard cast-iron AT upper works on the replacement bedplate. I tried out other AT upper works on this bedplate--same problem, but they work with other bedplates.
So what is going on with this bedplate? I don't have a clue.
