O/T but beautiful

Post by outune »

Just saw this beautiful pump organ on CL-- Is this a commentary on the state of mechanical music?? It's less than 10 miles from my house-- No room and bad back, or I'd take it just to be sure it doesn't end up in a dump!

Sadly, organs and pianos have been on the decline for quite some time. You almost have to pay people to take them anymore.

The biggest objection most people have to pump organs is the size and weight, also if it doesn't work properly there are few people who know how to repair them...

Sad to say, size, weight and getting them repaired all work against these lovely instruments. Some years ago, a talented gent from Canada started posting Youtube videos of him playing various reed organs, even a few how-to videos to guide in restoration and repair. I was hoping this would spark a renewed interest in these, but so far that hasn't been the case. Most of his videos feature "church music", but these organs can handle a broader repertoire, as here:

Most of us have our hands full trying to find room for that latest phonograph or three. If you miss out on this one, there will doubtless be several others offered for sale next week. They seem to have survived in large numbers.
