Elvis on 78

Post by saxymojo »

Hi
I just got back from shopping at Amoeba music on Sunset in Hollywood, I picked up 4 x Elvis 78 rpm records. I also got some Ella, Ruth Wallis, and many more.

Teddy Bear _ Loving You X 2

Anyway you want me _ Love me Tender

I Beg of You _ Don't

All are on the Victor RCA label

Regards Marcel :D :D :D

If you don't mind my asking, how much money were the Elvis records?

Hi,
Two of them cost me $50.00 each, one was $60.00 and the 4th that was a bit worn $18.00 all in US dollars.
8-)

Marcel,

Is that a good deal for Elvis on 78? I have absolutely no clue what a good price on these is, and so I thought I’d ask out of curiosity.

I imagine that his records are highly sought-after.

Elvis 78 records on the Sun label are real high dollar items, RCA stuff is considerably more available, thus not as expensive, though probably getting more so over time, I'd imagine.

Hi,
I wouldn't know, all I do know is that this is the first time I have been able to find any, so I dug deep and tried not pass out when paying for them.

I've got a few Elvis 78's. Only one on the RCA label though. The others are on the blue HMV "pop" series label.

Here's Treat Me Nice on RCA, played on the 202.

$50-$60 is pretty much correct for a full price for Elvis 78s on RCA. I live in Fresno and have been to the Amoeba in Hollywood several times. I wasn't all that impressed with the general selection at that store. There was tons and tons of obscure stuff (and I don't mean obscure in a good way, I mean music that nobody, even hardcore collectors, care about).

However, their selection of 1950s Rock 'n Roll and R&B 78s was quite impressive. Most of the "under $20" 78s were in booklets at the very back of the store, and there were some finds to be made in there. The more expensive stuff was under glass.

Hi
I got some more from a collector in California, another 11 near mint condition with a really nice carry folder and they were a bit cheaper :D :D :D
