Re: FOR SALE: Edison Automatic Recorder Set - $175.00
Hmm....Interesting. Looks like who ever it was
took the liberty of drilling a hole through the
original weight, so that the additional lead weight
could be fastened on with a screw.
Also a different twist is the use of a copper
diaphragm. Don't see that one very often.

Hi Eric, although I’ve had this for years I have never tried it. If I get time tomorrow I will. If it really that good I may just keep it.

Re: FOR SALE: Edison Automatic Recorder Set - New Price $140
That's a pretty fair sized hunk of lead on there.
I've tried added weight to an automatic recorder a few times. The largest weight I tried probably is about the
same amount of weight as this one, although mine was
a thinner, larger, flatter piece of lead which covers
more of the area of the weight.
I used double-stick Scotch tape to hold the
temporary weight on. Did not notice much improvement
in recorded sound. Groove cut is deeper with added weight.
Also must be careful with too much weight because
a point will be reached that the groove gets so wide
that it gets over into the adjacent groove, causing echo.
Added weight and a copper diaphragm. Interesting
combination. I have not ever tried that combination.
Next thing to find out about this recorder is what kind
of shape is the cutter in?
One reason I shied away from using extra weight
on an automatic recorder is that I did not want
to dull up the cutter. More weight = more and faster
cutter wear. It's always several tradeoffs of different
kinds.

Is this still for sale?
Did you test it?
If so, how does it work?
