Victor 3 Vs. Victor 1

Post by qazmom »

today at an antique store i saw a victor 3 and a victor 1. The victor 3 was $1450 and the victor 1 was $1200. I was wondering if anyone thought these are good prices. the victor 3 was redone and the horn was somewhat beat up, the victor 1 was in really good shape. Any thoughts?

Hello,
I think the prices are too high, which is normal for Antique stores. Plus you will have to pay taxes on items bought from stores. I bought a Vic I in nice condition last month for $900.00 from a collector in Oregon.Condition is everything. A beat up horn really detracts from the appearance.Prices on these machines have come down a bit over the last few years. I think you should be able to find a nice Vic III with black morning glory horn for around $1000.00. Why don't you place a want ad in a couple of the Phonograph forums and see what comes out of the woods!

The prices reflect the market from 3 years ago more than today. They are a bit too high. I've seen Vic 1's regularly go for under $1000 on ebay. A few weeks ago, one went for just over, but before that, I'd say they were running around $800-900 (perhaps the economy is rebouding?).

Not sure about the price of a 3. I paid more attention to the price of 1s just because I own one. I'm guessing if he was high on the 1, he's probably high on the 3 (or perhaps the guy is just high thinking he'll get these prices in this economy?).

I've seen Victor IIIs in really nice shape for as little as $1200 (the last Wayne show had a couple around that range) and others as high as $1500.

I was lucky enough to snag an early Victor I that needed nothing more than a serious cleaning for $700 at an auction a couple of years ago, when the market had been dropping for about a year. I've noticed prices have started rebounding a little on certain machines, as Zeppy points out, a nice I recently went over $1000. I was happy to see that and hoping this could be a sign things are picking back up (fingers crossed), I've been waiting to sell some machines for this to happen!
