I have an Excelsior like the one in this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jg7NXAtRRX8 .
The speed control lever which contacts the governor plate has no tension on it and the machine runs crazy fast!
There is a tab on the arm between the pivot point and governor contact pad which looks as if its meant to have a spring attached but I could see nothing attached to the tab in the YouTube video. Can someone with knowledge of these machines let me know what I need to do to repair the speed control?

Re: Excelsior Phonograph Speed Control Issue
Hi, there is no spring on this machine - as the governor speeds up the brass wheel part of the governor moves to the right and pushes against the felt pad on the speed adjuster. This pivots and pushes the top of the adjuster against the end of the threaded piece of the speed control screw. As you wind the screw backwards it allows the governor to speed up and as you screw it in it pushes the brass "wheel" on the governor back to the left, slowing it down.
Cheers

Re: Excelsior Phonograph Speed Control Issue
Thanks Andrew,
Perhaps my machine has a different issue. I'll have to look further into it.
All the Best,
Bob
