Columbia AH motor questions re interchangeability

Post by SydneyAde »

Hi folks

I have a few questions regarding the centre crank motor with horizontal governor and
cast iron bedplate.

I understand these motors were used in the fancy cased centre crank AH Graphophones until
all the fancy cases were used up, then installed into less fancy cases, thanks to a question Harvey K answered.

I would appreciate little more help here with a few more questions.

1. Are the two motors below interchangeable (both are stamped AH)?

Presuming they are

2. What is the diameter of the governor weight (the weights look like corroded lead)?
3. What is the length and width of the governor spring.

Thanks & Regards
Ade :)

The motors should be interchangeable. I never saw an AH motor with slots in the bedplate, only solid ones with the horizontal governor and center crank. . That's a new one on me. I don't know the dimensions of the weights and springs. I always order a kit from Ron Sitko. He has the weights, springs, screws and washers, quite reasonable. I'm not sure how much shipping would be to you area. Good luck,

Many thanks yet again Harvey!! :)

I recently purchased the bedplate (with slots) from a UK seller on Ebay and it
is yet to arrive. Maybe an instance of a machine for export?

Again, thank you, much appreciated Harvey.
