SOLD: Columbia Type Q Early Style Exc Must See $400

Post by Crank_it_up »

Every once in a while you find a machine that you wonder how they could have survived as well as they did for so long. Well, this is one of them. Take a look at the pics and you will see what I mean. It's an early Q serial number 386897 (I think as it's hard to read). The condition of this example is very special. The machine has the original reproducer but as you may know this style was weak and many owners "updated" with a dome mounted stylus, thus eliminating the needle bar. In this case it sounds OK but the diaphragm is not sealing well and needs a rebuild. The stylus looks fine under a loupe. The most wear is to the winding key but it's not that bad, just worth pointing out. The wood cover is very nice as well. The decal has a few spots that are easily noted in the pictures. In summary this is just how collectors like to find these early phonographs. If I didn't already have one just a bit nicer I would keep it. It does not include a horn but I think I have a reproduction 10" cone somewhere. Let me know if needed, or get one from various dealers. Ron Sitko is a great source. Payment must be by check or money order. If you need to use PayPal contact me through PM. Safe well packed shipping will be at actual cost likely through USPS. Any questions or requests for additional pics let me know through a PM. Thanks for looking. Joe
