I’ll be at the APS expo this weekend. Below are some things I can part with. I will have a table but I will not be bringing all of this stuff. Also, I’ll only be selling on Saturday, so the time for dealing is now. If you see anything at all you’re interested in, let me know so I can bring it. Interested in trading for electrically recorded Edison discs, British machines (including portables), or cash.
Bizarre footstool made from a Sonora crate. $20
Lot of 30+ R&B 78s, some rare good stuff here, several promo copies, etc., all are pretty great, mostly 1940s and 50s. Artists include Ruth Brown, Ray Charles, LaVern Baker, Joe Turner, Mahalia Jackson, Little Esther, Helen Humes, Joe Morris w/ Laurie Tate, The Clovers, etc. All nice, playable condition. These could sell individually, but I’d rather just sell them all to someone who appreciates them. $150 for all.
Edison Diamond Disc Phonograph Model C-200, “Adam,” in oak. I bought this a few years ago from Jerry B. It was in very rough cosmetic condition and I gave it the full restoration treatment. (Read more about it and see more photos here: http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... hed+almost )
Beautiful dramatic graining. Grain filler and shellac were used. Motor taken apart, cleaned/greased spring, etc. Works great. Wheels are vintage replacements that work very well (better than any of the originals I’ve encountered), making it a very easy machine to move around. I have a ton of time and effort into this, but I’m a realist. I just don’t know what to ask, and I’d like it to find a good home in the collector community if possible, so if you’re interested, make an offer. I will not be bringing this unless pre-sold.
Edison B-19 tabletop disc phonograph. Cabinet in rough shape (mostly, the top of the lid is bubbled/missing some veneer.) No reproducer or crank is included, but I tested it and it will plays well. Mechanism runs nice, spring is good. Also needs lid stay and grille (I do have a tracing of a grille on paper if you want to try to make your own). I have too many projects to finish. Won’t you let this little guy grace your bungalow? It could easily be parted out, but it would also make a nice project. $75.
Sears Silvertone Super Deluxe Portable Phonograph. This portable has drop-down record storage in the lid, needle storage, a long, metal internal horn, and a very nice Tru-Phonic reproducer featuring the beautiful dogwood flower on its cover. I replaced the damaged leather strap that supports the record storage area with very sturdy new leather (the original is preserved in the machine). Works well. $125.
Babson Bros. red horn for cylinder player. Great mid-size, around 24” long, and it has its original red paint. What more do you need? $125.
Vintage Music Box. Works. Looks to be from the late 1920s or 30s? Includes original tiny heart-shaped lock and key. No idea what the tune is, but it’s nice! $50.
GE portable 4-speed phonograph. Automatic changer, separate bass/treble. Everything works, sounds good. I ordered the needle, put it on years ago, and very, very rarely played it. It’s portable, but barely, because it’s pretty heavy. Didn’t the Bradys have this in their den? Very nice set up for playing that new-fangled vinyl on, I’ll bet it sounds a lot better than a Crosley Cruiser. $125.
PARTS
Mahogany louvres from an early Victrola IX. Four louvres present (two went to completing a machine.) $10.
Mahogany motor board trim pieces for an Edison C-150. Somehow, I ended up with these. Nice original finish. $10. I think I also have door hinges and drop-down door support from the same machine, anyone need it? Let me know.
RCA New Orthophonic portable from the 1950s, not much left inside, someone took most of the chassis and changer. Case is rough but solid. Handle, emblems, speaker ok, useable amount of speaker cloth, etc. Lots of good parts--you have to take the whole thing, though! $10. I may not be bringing this unless pre-sold.
*Prices subject to reduction as I get sick of looking at this pile of stuff*
