Can someone identify this machine?

Post by larryh »

Hello all,

I see this phonograph coming up in a local auction this weekend and I emailed the auctioneer whos helper said he thought it was and Edison. However it doesn't appear to be such to me. I wonder originally if it might be a Pathé since the reproducer seems to be sitting at an angle to the arm, but its hard to tell if its just turned up or how it is positioned. I am not familiar enough with Pathé to know if its one of theirs or not?

thanks

Larry

It doesn't look to be a Pathé judging by the non-Pathé logo inside the lid. It might be a His Master's Voice but its hard to tell.

looks like a random off-brand machine, particularly considering the design of the tonearm/reproducer. it's definitely not edison, not Pathé, and not victor or hmv (I don't believe either of those last two manufacturers produced any internal horn upright phonograph without doors in front of the horn - whether or not there was a grill, as was the case with most orthophonic machines).
