Thanks - Scott

Re: WANTED: Stollwerck records
I don't want to hijack this thread, but I cannot resist posting a picture of this very rare hand driven RED Stollwerck.
I was fortunate enough to examine it when a collector friend was entrusted with it's sale on behalf of the owner. In the box of the original retailer, William Whiteley's Department Store of London, and with a number of records (laminated not chocolate) it sold for £4,400 at auction in November 2017.

I hope someone has playable or copyable records so they can be reproduced. I am not sure how successful it would be as they were made of chocolate. Though I think there were also non chocolate records too. I have been looking for an original for years!

It seems that the machines came with chocolate discs (foil covered, with the recording pressed into that) but once you'd made the investment you could buy pressed composition discs. Stollwerck made a more substantial machine with a wooden case and brass fittings so they must have expected greater sales.

Re: WANTED: Stollwerck records
What are the dimensions for these records?
It looks like a larger than normal centre hole and a thicker than normal record I understand these were about 4 inches in diameter.
The near exact dimensions would allow for working out how to make a new one.

Re: WANTED: Stollwerck records
I hate to say it but I once owned two of the smaller Stollwerck records. They even played (as well as one could be played). Then came the move......all 100 machines, records and accessories made it to the new home without loss. While setting up my Stollwerck display, both records were pushed off the shelf (a framed photo was standing up behind them) and shattered into thousands of pieces. No more records. That was nearly 10 years ago and I have been looking ever since.
There was a company in Europe talking seriously about making chocolate records 6-7 years ago but it went nowhere. I believe Don Wilson could do this - what do you think Don? Are you up for a challenge? It would be greatly appreciated by many.
