Post by Edisonfan »

I received this book as a gift from my parents, and thought I would share it. It's a great book to read.

It was one of the first booklets I ever owned and came with a mint victor 400 console I purchased for 25.00 in the late 50's. My most memorable quotes from it were something to the order of "the classics live on forever while the popular record is like a passing fad here today gone tomorrow. " It may be somewhat true in a musical sense, but not always in the amounts people seem willing to pay for some of those popular ditties as they called them.
I miss the emphasis on serious music which at that time still was a mainstream topic. Somewhere along the line it was relegated to very limited coverage where in those days the movements of a classical artist were covered like movie stars today. Its no wonder kids for the most part haven't a clue, when your not exposed to something of quality you have a tendency not to appreciate it.

To quote an old Chicago radio DJ: "It doesn't have to be good to be a classic!"
