SOLD: Custom Chestnut Cylinder Cabinet: Inquire

This is the final item I'm selling for my friend.

I can deliver this to the Wayne NJ show on the 12th/13th, to the spring 2020 Wayne show, or to the Union IL show in June 2020.

My friend had this cabinet custom-made about 10 years ago by a local cabinetmaker. The wood is American Chestnut. Opening the 2 doors reveals 3 drawers, each holding 50 records, for 150 total. There's a sliding shelf below the lower drawer that pulls forward. The cabinet includes a ¼" plate glass protecting upper surface if you want it.

I have no idea how to price this, so I'm open to reasonable offers. One thing's for sure - you won't find another cylinder cabinet like this one!

The American Chestnut is indeed a beautiful wood. My grandparent's house, built in 1935, had Am. Chestnut trim and doors throughout-

BUT-- The American Chestnut blight in the early 1900's effectively wiped out the tree by the early 1950's. There are efforts to reestablish some small groves, but usually by the time they get about 12-15 feet in height, they die off.

Where did your friend's woodworker find the chestnut? Old farmhouses often had Am Chestnut support beams that I've seen people cut and plane for furniture.

The cabinet is beautiful-- especially because of the rare wood.

When we bought our house (built in 1892) 29 years ago, I thought the woodwork was oak, but a friend pointed out that it is chestnut. Now the difference seems more obvious...!

I don't know where the chestnut came from, but I seem to recall my friend mentioning that the woodworker had a small amount stashed away.

The cabinet is beautiful-- especially because of the rare wood.

Tom, I don't know. The cabinet is still with my friend, a half-hour from here. If you're seriously considering the cabinet, I'll make the drive.
