I have a Graphophone AB in my collection.. What do forum member feel is the best playing reproducer to give it volume..
I only have a couple 5" cylinders for am not happy with the volume even though the sound quality is pretty good.
I believe the reproducer in my unit is a #4.
Thanks in advance

Re: Graphophone AB aka Macdonald reproducer
I have a Columbia AB as well with a rebuilt (by me and sounding very nice) original reproducer. My Columbia AB plays my concert cylinders OK with (yawn) not so great volume. And, believe me, some Concert cylinders can almost knock the wax out of your ears they're so loud.
To get the absolute BEST sound with incredible volume from my concert cylinders (Columbia or Edison) I always use my Edison Concert with a model B reproducer. I'm sure there are folks here that can get outstanding volume from their Columbia Graphophones that play the concert cylinders but for me...get me an Edison Concert phonograph with a rebuilt model B reproducer. My ears are still ringing from playing some concert cylinders with a large brass bell horn!

The later ABs were sold with a D1 reproducer (#5 in Hazelcorn), and the heavier housing with the larger diaphragm seems more effective to me.

Thanks George
I tried the D5 and it is definitely better as you said much larger diaphragm... Main problem with the D5 is that there is no lifting legs sticking down near the collar to allow the reproducer to pop up off the record when traveling the carriage in either direction.
Has any member in this forum address this problem?? Can't really see an easy fix unless the inside pin is somehow removed. I'm sure I'll break something LOL

There are 2 different versions of the #4 and #5 reproducer. One has the lift fingers and one without.
