Lot #1344: Circa 1909, manufactured by The United Vending Co, Cleveland, OH. This all-original scale was purchased by a small town General Store operator in rural Virginia. It was operated for 10 years. The owner then brought it home where it sat in the basement for the next 80 years. His daughter sold it in 1999. The current owner has had it for the last 20 years. The body of the scale is made of ornamental cast iron. The front door depicts a balance scale intertwined with a ribbon reading "American Talking Scale". A cast iron framed blue and white porcelain sign tops the scale reading "5¢ I Speak Your Weight", 6 blue porcelain panels from a speaker vent for weight announcements and gives visual directions for operation. The original internal mechanism is all intact. THERE IS NO RECORD WITH THIS SCALE. Original locks are included, cast iron has no breaks, chips, cracks or repairs, the top blue porcelain direction panel has a chip on the left side, overall stand 77" tall, with marquee 18" x 32". You will never find another one of these in such original as-found condition!
