Anything good (or bad): Columbia Model C graphophone?

Reiss gives it three stars. I like the trap door. Is it hard to find? Pot metal issues? Thanks for any input.

Same pot metal issues as with most Columbia machines, the reproducer mount sleeve on some are pot metal others are brass. I have 3 Model C's two have brass sleeves one had potmetal. The other thing to look at is the governor drive gear to keep it quiet they used a gear with a leather center and sometimes they are missing chunks of teeth or totally destroyed. Paul baker makes a new leather insert and others have made delrin center to replace the leather center. And another is to cut a completely new gear from delrin or plastic.

Other than that it's a massive and HEAVY machine.

This is my favorite one:

Chuck: Thanks. Just the sort of info I was looking for. Your response is why the Forum is such a great resource.
