Re: Is This A Fair Price?
1- a pretty uncommon machine
2- unpopular console model, like most, and as big as a mobile home
3- finish usually suffers the ravages of time- as this one shows
4- has the bigger horn so actually sounds pretty darn good
5- I think I remember reading, not sure on which forum, of one that sold for 1,000+
A good deal? Really depends on what you like and if you have room for this really big phonograph. Steve

Not too bad a price if you like the style and have room for it. If it's in your area check it out and look through the records- might be lucky enough to have some good dance music.

Re: Is This A Fair Price?
A "fair" price depends on how much you want something and what you can afford - basically, how much enduring pleasure you think you'll derive from it. I went over $100 on a record a few weeks ago, because it was one I really, really wanted & had been looking for for over a decade. Fair? Who knows? But it was how much I wanted the darned thing - and then some unprincipled guy bid it over even my limit - may all his records get mold!

These boring, bland looking consoles aren't very popular even though from a performance standpoint, they should sound quite nice.

Actually that one is one of Edison's least bland looking consoles- the hand painted grilles are quite effective.

totally agree. I used to want one of these, but have only seen one in person once - a forum member in the philadelphia area has one. it's definitely uncommon, loud and certainly huge, much larger than the typical console, which is what I liked about it. but the finish did have that dark, murky quality... in my opinion, so long as it's original and not flaking off, I'm usually happy.
