This is a two 10 inch record set with 4 sides. The sides are 33 ⅓ rpm transcription records on shellac with grooves the same as the 78 rpm records of that day. It is a bit worn and the softer parts are not all that clear. Side 4 is pretty terrific compared to the rest of the set. I cannot say this is fantastic music, but it is amazing that they got more than 34 minutes of music on 4 sides. John McCormack sings 4 songs and the rest is instrumental. If you open the video in YouTube there is more information and there are links to each of the 4 sides directly when you use a PC or Mac.

I find this so interesting and even though the format was short lived and not all that successful, it is an amazing feat.

I wonder of any of these were dubbed from the Schubert Centenary scroll set (which I have) that has some John McCormack with Nat Shilkret conducting Salon Group sides. I'd have to pull it out to see, I don't remember offhand.

I would not be surprised if this same music was available in 78 RPM format. I am no expert on Program Transcriptions, or records in general, but I do remember reading (somewhere) advertising information from Victor about the new format stating that they planned to release everything made for the Program Transcriptions as 78 RPM sets as well. I don't know what might have been dubbed, but from listening to a couple of the longer sides on this early PT recording I believe it was recorded directly to the 33 ⅓ RPM format.

It's almost a certainty that these were also issued on 78 RPM, as the first entry in the "non Stokowski" group listed on this site is from the same group and catalog series:

These records are likely dubs, as the first issues of the Herbert series were first issued on 78 RPM. I suspect these were also.

However, sometimes Victor also used multiple lathes and recorded PTs and 78 RPM at the same time.
