WANTED: clean copy of Laughing Policeman

Post by cheryla »

Preferably in the US, but we heard this on YouTube and loved it. Does anyone have a copy of this 78 for sale?

Commonly found in the UK where it sold over a million copies. There must be some in the USA, but good luck finding one.

The song was written by Charles Penrose (1873-1952) under the pseudonym Charles Jolly. He first recorded it acoustically in 1922 for Regal G-7816, then electrically in 1926 for Columbia 4014, later re-released as FB1184. He recorded many other laughing songs, but none achieved the popularity of "The Laughing Policeman".

Not in US but his worldwide shipping rates seem reasonable and it looks in very good shape

Here is the relisted one mentioned in a previous post... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/254526841932 ... 4526841932
It appears to be in excellent condition, no obvious signs of wear...

I have bought many records from Europe with great results, especially British records that are uncommon in the states... Pay with PayPal and if anything goes wrong you are covered...

Just to be safe, inquire about how the seller plans to ship and especially package this for an overseas journey. Packed in an oversize box with plenty of packing material above and below and sandwiched between multiple pieces of cardboard - NO PADDED ENVELOPES. The seller is a record guy, so will probably be familiar with packing it correctly. He also has a large number of positive feedback ratings...

Since it is a British recording, chances of finding it in the US are slim. In the past 40 years I have never run across this title...
