WANTED AGAIN: Part for my Talkophone Projects

Post by MikeB »

Hi -

I am working on two oddball project machines. The first is a Talk-O-Phone. It is nearly a complete, working machine. I am missing the parts that join the support arm and the traveling arm. Please see photos. Also it looks like I am missing a reproducer locking screw which goes through the traveling arm. I have the horn and elbow - I just didn't know what machine they belonged to until I posted here; (thanks, George!). The horn support is available on Ebay. I don't know what the missing parts are supposed to look like, much less if they are available.

The Zonophone is almost done. (Yes, I know that the reproducer is incorrect). There is a hole in the traveling arm through which the base of the horn support goes trough. But it is just a hole - there is nothing to hold in base of the horn support. I am temporarily using a rubber piece to hold it in until I find the right part. As with the above, I don't know what this part is supposed to look like.

Ideas?

Thank you!
Mike

Mike, the hole in the traveling arm is all there is to secure the horn cradle. There is no need to further secure it, since gravity and the weight of the horn keeps it in place.

Thanks, George. I should have figured that out.

As for the part that connects the two arms on the Talk-O-Phone, could someone who has one of these machines possibly post a picture of that part? I might be able to make something that would work, but it would help if I had a better idea of what the original part looks like.

Thank you!

Hi MikeB,

The part that you are missing on the Zonophone tone arm is a small piece of metal tubing which is soldered into the base of the arm below the hole. It's a tricky fix to hold the piece in place when soldering, but it can be done, and won't show when the arm is turned over. Here are a couple of pics to better explain what I am talking about.

Cheers, Bob S.

Bob,

How can you tell that little tube is missing from the Zono traveling arm? I can't see that from Mike's pictures!

George,

The support wire should be held in place perpendicular to the tone arm, I can tell from the first pic that this one is not.
I think the piece may still be there under the clear tubing. It may just have snapped loose, and will need to be re-soldered.

I thought I saw the little metal tube through that translucent rubber, and assumed that it was there. I'll be interested to learn if it's there, and it it's connected.

The metal tube is indeed missing. Thank you. I should be able to fashion a similar part.
Thanks again- Mike

Thanks for those photos. Oy, the part that joins the Talk-O-Phone arms is a lot more complex than I thought it would be. I may have to wait for one to come along, but I fear that it may be a very long wait.
