Eduardo Portillo wooden horns

Does anybody know if Eduardo Portillo is still making wood horns? I've never gotten them from him, and I would probably rather get a repro than an original in order to save some money.

He is on a bit of hiatus, taking care of his elderly and sick father while still working his day job. The horns are a sideline and are on the back burner for a while.

Don Gfell makes horns, have you tried him? I’ve bought dozens over the years and nobody in the business is more reliable or honest than Don. And if you see all the effort and expense it takes to make a horn, you’ll realize it’s a labor of love for him.

Thanks for the reply, I had no idea that Don made horns, I just know him from his repair work. Do you for how much sells them for? I will give it some thought.

Don's wood horns run just about the same as Eduardo's, when shipping and other costs are factored in. It's best you call him to discuss specific pricing.

You will not find many bargains with new horns. They are beautiful and really well made and very time consuming and labor intensive to make. I have seen many of them from each of the makers named in the thread. They are going to be expensive and nearly as expensive as an original horn. That being said, they are available and made just as the originals were made.

I have a few Don Gfell horns and all are very well made. Below are photos of one he made for me. I have heard Mr. White's are also very well made.
