Recently found in a box of gramophone spares is this volume control device of a make which I have not seen in any reference book.
Bearing a 1912 Patent date, it is a classic example of something which did what few people wanted done.

Interesting! So instead of the usual sound dampening devices this introduces air leaks right behind the sound box to "moderate" the sound? Seems to be the opposite of what we usually try to seal everything. I wonder if it works. Have you tried it?
Thanks

I have not been tempted to try it, as my Expert Minor does not suffer from "Harshness of the Trumpet"

When it's attached, it looks as if you would need to rotate the reproducer to open and close the holes. That would also change in the degree of the needle angle. Interesting idea as a volume control.
I'd try anything not to suffer from "Harshness of the Trumpet"

No. An external collar is the only thing that rotates. Kind of like turning the ventilator plate on a traditional Weber kettle grill. (Which we know now, makes the food cook louder or softer apparently.Roaring20s wrote:When it's attached, it looks as if you would need to rotate the reproducer to open and close the holes.
