Opinions/Input on this Nipper

Post by LShaped »

Have an opportunity to grab this Nipper...and a cool piece of Victrola History. Was hoping someone might have more info or know the value.

What's he made from? Nippers have been made from paper Mache, tin, rubber, plastic, and all sorts of material. Also, is he permanently attached to the base?

Never saw one on a base like that. Rather than estimate what it's worth, may I ask what the owner wants for it? If it's like $50, that's a "no-brainer", buy it! If it's more like $1000, then we should wait till more experienced folks respond.

"it’s prewar time probably late 30s.....earliest ones were made from paper-mache, this one is a heavier one, composite material..they were made to be a window display."

The real question, per Jerry Van: "Never saw one on a base like that. Rather than estimate what it's worth, may I ask what the owner wants for it?"
Also, does the seller know its provenance?

I wonder if the Rolfs would know, since they wrote the book on Nipper collectibles. You might consider sending them a PM in case they haven't seen this post.
