Another opera recording for my opera friends here on TMF. This one is one of my personal favorites by my favorite soprano of the early part of the 20th century. She recorded well acoustically which cannot be said for all sopranos even some really famous sopranos. Her voice somehow was captured really well singing through a horn directly to wax. This record has been released on LP and CD albums. but this is from a 1920 Edison Diamond Disc. There is considerable hiss, but her voice and even the orchestra is very clear.

Whenever someone starts up that old bromide about "Edison recorded nobodies in badly chosen music," I always counter with her name, among others--any label that could boast the names Muzio, Urlus, Martinelli, Hempel, Matzenauer, and Bonci, just to name a few, wasn't doing too badly, I'd say. I'm with you about Muzio: nobody did dramatic soprano literature better. (I'll confess being a Galli-Curci man for the coloratura arias, but those really weren't her "thing.")
