Vitaphone Upright, coming home on Friday, any advice?
I found a Vitaphone upright, (horn in the lid). Cool and a little strange, so I am looking forward to it. Does anyone have any information one these? Thanks

I have one and have tried to get it back to proper working order, although I’m not sure about how much tension there should be on the reproducer for it to produce much volume. They were made here in Plainfield, NJ, where I live and where I have been involved with some historical activity in the city, which is why I was so eager to get my hands on one a few years ago. Do you know what model it is? I would love to see photos. I have never seen too many pictures, especially with detail around the tonearm mount.

It is a model 100, (the $100.00 machine). I don’t know much more than that. I will share some pictures on Friday. Thanks for the reply.BillH_NJ wrote:I have one and have tried to get it back to proper working order, although I’m not sure about how much tension there should be on the reproducer for it to produce much volume. Fixed position of the diaphragm, with a string running to the pick up armature. Plays either lateral or H & D recordings. Had to rebuild part of the tone arm on ours. I'll post some close up pictures of the tone arm later. Cheers, Russie

Mine is a 75. As I said, the factory was just a mile or two from here.

Yes, I have that same catalog. Given the local history, I was trying to collect at least some documents with that reference.

Here's a little info from the Canadian antique phonograph society. (http://keithwright.ca/CAPP/Vitaphone/vitaphone.html)
