Hi everyone. I searched on the site before posting, and didn't see what I was looking for, so here it goes. I am wondering if Pathé Chinese records, the ones with the chicken and all the Chinese writing on them, are worth money. I found a few that are listed or sold for 200, and 700 dollars! And I was wondering if that is just because like 2 people for what ever reason, really wanted that record. Or if they are rare and hard to find.
I am new to collecting records, and I enjoy finding out about the records. But I haven't seen anything when searching that says Chinese records are super collectable. So I was curious. Thank you everyone
!

Re: Chinese Pathé record
I've made the mistake in the past of thinking chinese records are worthless. Good rule of thumb: assume they are all worth something if you find them, especially blue label acoustic Victors and Pathés. I found an acoustic vertical Pathé with sleeve a couple years ago. I sold it for $50; expected it to bring more. Good hunting!

Re: Chinese Pathé record
I would guess that Chinese records are being collected by wealthy Chinese phonograph collectors and there are not many around... that might be the reason for the high prices you found. Those collectors might want something authentic from their culture to play. Like anything else, supply and demand dictate prices. If you don't know Chinese or appreciate Chinese music, it wouldn't be a good idea to pay a lot for one of those records, since you would be speculating on a market that you don't understand... For example, no one that I know would pay several hundred dollars for a copy of "The Old Oaken Bucket", mainly because they know the market and the fact that there are thousands of them waiting patiently in thrift stores for people to buy them for 50 cents... the same might be true of certain Chinese songs that are unpopular... who knows?

Re: Chinese Pathé record
Hello and thank you both for your replies. I guess it makes sense about the supply and demand and it seems like lots of Chinese made things that are older and made it to America are in higher demand for the Chinese to buy back. I bought the record at a thrift store for 50 cents funny enough!, because the label was so different, I loved the chicken on it. It sounds pretty, the voice on it too, but I have no idea what they are saying. So I looked online to get info. My family says sell it LOL, but I would be worried it would break- I never packed records before. Maybe I will put it on a local for sale site and just see if anyone is interested. Thanks again!
