No. 2 Reproducer Oops

Post by RNaylor »

So, i was rebuilding a crusty No. 2 Reproducer, and this happened

Has anyone successfully fixed something like this, or is it over for this part?

I haven't seen any on eBay, so I'm hoping its fixable.

Oof.

Call Ron Sitko or George Vollema or Walt Sommers or Wyatt Markus or literally any good phonograph parts dealer. If you can't find a replica I am sure someone has a nice original. Long as the screws did not strip, you may be all right with a fresh bar.

Here is something to help give you an idea what's in a No. 2 reproducer. Wyatt Markus wrote this on here some time ago and he is a master of phonograph rebuilds. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5812 This was written in 2011 so yes, replica parts have improved considerably since. Then on page 2-5 of the discussion comes quite a bit about tension springs and adjusting the No. 2 box for maximum fidelity.

You've been taking this projects nice and slow & I am sure your Victrola is going to sound, and look, incredible.

I would snag that needle bar that Jerry referenced, before it gets gone...

Yes--You can literally get this for $20 with shipping and all. Buy that & you should be in a lot better shape.

So for some reason my update notification didn't work, so i missed out on that part. I ended up saying what the heck, lets give it a shot, and bought some brass rod.

Took three tries to get it right. Not perfect.

But the imperfections aren't really noticable.

I'll post the Reproducer later today after i assemble it.

I think the final product came out nice. I can't wait to finish the cabinet so I can hear how it plays.

From crusty rusty to this lil beauty.

Looks pretty nice; it will be exciting to hear whether it plays as well as it displays. That was a very ambitious restoration right there to make your own part!

Finally finished the full restoration. Only a few issues most of which are listed in my other post.

I have not identified the cause of this sound:

But all the gears are greased and connections oiled.

The music does drown out that sound for the most part.
