HELP removing reproducer from horn neck of C-19 DD machine

Post by apruizii »

I just picked up a C-19 Edison Diamond Disc machine and am having a really hard time removing the reproducer from the horn neck. I tried putting some liquid wrench penetrating oil around the joint and left it over night and tried using a strap wrench with no luck! I've been able to use a strap wrench with success in the past but not this time. As a last resort I wrapped the knurl ring with electric tape and tried using adjustable channel lock pliers with no luck; didn't want to put too much force.

Any other ideas?

You could try some freeze-off spray from the automotive store (or more expensive medical freeze spray).

Good luck!

A heat gun might help. Heat it up, then let it cool down to room temperature before trying to remove it. This worked for an Amberola reproducer that was stuck in the horn.

Andreas,

The CRC Freeze Off product did the trick! I sprayed it on and still had to use the adjustable channel lock pliers to break it loose. Now the knurl ring turns easily and I can put on and take off the reproducer.

Thanks for the great tip!!

Jim,

I was going to try the torch option as my last resort but the CRC Freeze Off spray worked.

P B Blaster works a lot of the time for stuff like this.

To freeze, use the computer duster spray with the can upside down. The spray that comes out is INTENSELY/dangerously cold!
