It's very interesting and worth the effort to save it... Why does "a possible bar" come up in the description???

How is it known that this is / was actually used for storing gramophone records and not,say, for keeping large envelopes, or a plate rack etc ?

I agree.
Who would make a record cabinet with no doors?
Would those front legs support the weight of the records?
Why is there no provision for record storage in the bottom section?

The compartments look unnecessarily tall, compared to the few (presumably 10 inch) records in there...
