Victor VV8-35 Orthophonic arm back bracket question

Post by electrolaman 64 »

I recently acquired a very nice VV8-35 Orthophonic with all of its albums in nice shape. It could however use a new repro tonearm back bracket. I do have one in stock. But here is my question.

I removed the 4 bolts from the steel flange as usual. Usually the arm assembly will just come right off at that point. But not this one! I have another friend with a VV8-35 that says he has the same problem and has not tackled it .

I can see nothing from under the deck that is causing this. Does anyone have experience with this that could advice me before I resort to brute strength and awkwardness? ;)

Thanks!

Must be something with the metal horn models, because I have the same issue trying to remove the tonearm from my 8-9. Fortunately my bracket is intact. I just wanted to better seal the connection if possible. I have decided to leave well enough alone, at least for now.

I actually picked up an 8-35 myself a month back or so. From what I recall, there’s a rubber gasket sealing the bottom of the back bracket to the metal horn. I remember doing a combination of twisting and pulling to end up separating the two. Hope this helps, and that’s a beautiful 8-35!
