What's this?

The auctioneer's unhelpful description says "A wind up gramophone" and there is only one picture. It looks European to me. Does anyone recognise it?

It's a Maxitone. I saw one on eBay years ago and have been looking out for another ever since, because of my love of classic Citroens - the design of the horn outlet is similar to the style of the Citroen chevrons on early H-vans.

Here is the link to the auctioneer's website. They are in the middle of nowhere, a long way from Dover.

Thank you very much Roger! I might see if they can ship it.

Shipping is extremely expensive - the only quote I've been able to get from one of their recommended shippers is £45, and I'm not willing to try any other firms - too many unknowns for me.

I'll probably put a low bid in, but am highly unlikely to win it - so if you, Roger, or anyone else fancies going for it, don't hold back on account of me!

Sold for £38 hammer price, or about £46 total (not to me - I'd have been adding £45 carriage, or as it happens about the same in fuel and a whole day to drive there and back to collect it). I do hope someone enjoys it, or as so often, maybe we'll see it on evilBay!

At least if it appears on eBay there is a good chance that the seller will post it for a reasonable price.
