Restoration of a "Mahoganized" Victor V - Finished!

Post by jmad7474 »

Just in time for Labor Day 2020, attached are pics of my refurbished "mahoganized" Victor V from 1915 (or very close to it). Many of you will recall I originally posted this phonograph in its as-found state of disrepair to *cough* mixed *cough* reviews. Hopefully these pictures will change the minds of the naysayers and illustrate the trash-to-treasure workmanship that I can bestow upon these old machines. Even if it doesn't, at the very least, I hope this shows why you should NEVER store them in barns for 40+ years!

I acknowledge that the dealer's decal and the metal components are still not 100% rejuvenated. Because they were already so badly worn away/totally corroded and rusted when I got them, I couldn't salvage the decal nor re-plate the tonearm/brake/turntable. That being said, everything else looks and plays BEAUTIFULLY, and is all set to last another 105 years of listening pleasure with proper care. I even salvaged the original dealer's coin (found wedged between the motor and motorboard) and bought a copy of my favorite ad featuring the Victor V.

I want to give a special thanks to all those who gave me some helpful tips/tricks via PM, and I hope you all enjoy the pics! I don't think there is any other Victor V out there quite like this one :)
