WANTED: Cabinet Door Actuator - See Picture please

Post by Ripduf1 »

Hi all, I am looking for a double door record cabinet door actuator. I don't know what else to call it. I guess I would buy a junker if this part were still in it. I would also consider reproduction if anyone knows where to get one. This simple contraption lets both doors move in unison to either open or close by moving a single door leaf. Please see picture. Thanks in advance. John Duffy

John

If you are not able to find a replacement I suggest you have one made or make it yourself. I was able to do this for my Barrel Cabinet and was very surprised at how straight forward it was.

1. Attain the measurements from someone who owns a similar cabinet to yours
2. Buy custom cut brass plating. My local supplier cut a piece a little wider and longer than I needed.
They supplied 7/32ths thickness but 1/8th is better.
3. Use a table saw with a carbide tipped blade to cut strips
The supplier may do this for you (mine did not)
4. Cut to length - old fashioned hack saw
5. Use a bench grinder to smooth edges and round corners
6. Drill holes correct size for rivets at swing arm ends
7. Attach swivels from old Phonograph lid support arms with rivets

Best of Luck

Bruce
