Hello
A seller offers to me a Victor Monarch phonograph with the rigid arm system. The machine is all 100 % original with almost perfect original finish too. I need to know which would be the current market value to a phonograph like this.
Thanks in advance.

Without photos it is difficult to give an opinion on value. Jerry B.

Yes. I understand but the seller not authorize me to publish the photos until the operation is effective. As I comment, the phonograph is 100% original, with an original finish in a really good mechanical and aesthetic condition.

The reluctance of the seller to allow posting of photos raises red flags for me. The definition of "100% original" means different things to different people. Does 100% original mean is has all the parts and finish that came from the factory? Does is mean it was completed with original parts? Still others say a machine is "original" meaning original parts but with those original parts possibly re-plated or refinished.

No Jerry. No renickeled parts, no repaint horn, original cabinet finish in really nice condition. Any part is a reproduction. Only need an estimate price of a phonograph like this.
Thanks

Market value is difficult to determine, since there is no "price guide" for these... The best option is to state what the "asking price" is to determine whether or not it is in a "reasonable" price range... or if the seller is way out of line. These blind, open ended questions about value are pointless. If you want to know what people have actually paid for an item, look on eBay for past sales or GOOGLE auction prices, like any of us. Some people have stumbled on to valuable machines for $50 or $100, while other people have paid excessively for an item that they just had to have, so do your own research and come to your own conclusions about how bad you want it, compared to the asking price. I doubt whether the seller would care what we think the value should be.

Its current value is the price you are willing to pay for it. If you are looking at possessing it purely based on some perception of monetary value, it might not be right for you anyway.
Consider the asking price, and if the thing doesn’t feel like it will make you happier than having that money in the bank, either ask for a reduction, or move on.

My question was too simple. I only asked about a current price about a machine tthat I’m not acquainted because the 80 % of my collection are European machines (I live in Europe)
Most people inform me that the kindness is not common in this forum. Now I can confirm it. The last comment post “ This is a hobby. If you want to invest, try stocks “ sounds really rude.

Nice examples sold for up to 4,000.00 US ten years ago. Today things are about half the price of that. For a mint example with all the correct parts that it left the factory with 1,800.00 to 2,200.00 US would be top dollar. Hope this helps. Might try and Google Stantons or some of the other auction houses for the final sale prices with buyers premium.

I checked with a friend of mine who has owned several rigid arm models. Our estimate for an original M is $2500 - $3000 USD. Hope that helps and good luck cause that's a pretty rare machine.
