SOLD - Original Mikiphone - $200

Post by brianu »

Selling an original Mikiphone, for parts or restoration. I haven’t done anything to it but it’s running and the condition seems pretty nice based on some others I’ve seen, and it should polish up really well. Obviously the sound resonator and platter are missing, but the original reproducer is present. A few complete ones (without the leather carrying case) have recently sold for 500 to 600, and I found one that sold for 200 that was missing everything, the reproducer as well. I’d like 350 for this. I believe reproduction parts are available from a dealer in Germany...

This is located in Philadelphia PA, can be picked up or mailed for about $15. Send a message or email brianu73 at hotmail if interested.

200, plus postage... respectfully, I’m just wondering whether these machines are of no interest, if the missing parts are a deterrent, or if this isn’t cheap enough. I’ve seen these in similar condition sell for a good deal more.

Being in college makes it difficult to go for the machines like this that I like & would purchase. Doubtless other folks are feeling a bit of the same--CovID-19 situation has run the discretionary income a lot of people have, down. And that makes it difficult.

Good items (like this Mikiphone) will find a buyer. It's just that it may not be as quick a sale as we've been used to.

Good luck on it, and I hope your Mikiphone will be on its way somewhere shortly.

One never knows what will sell on any particular day, week or month. I’ve sat for months on multiple examples of fine machines and then have them all sell to different customers on the same day. A few months ago VictrolaMonkey called me and committed to buy my Wurlitzer 1080 jukebox. He said he was going away for a few weeks, and would pay me when he returned. I said fine, no worries, nobody ever inquiries about it anyway. Don’t you know that within the day, another customer of mine called, wanting to buy it. Crazy.

Interestingly enough, most sellers that I know, myself included, have seen a major uptick in sales these past six months. People are stuck at home, no shows or auctions to attend, etc. My biggest problem at the moment is finding good inventory to replace items that sell.

Very interesting Raphael - with the thorn needles, I similarly experienced a huge surge in orders for the first three months or so of the Coronavirus period, but conversely, it's been unusually quiet since. I have the impression it's fairly similar for collectables on eBay and the like here in the UK. My conjecture is that people were keen for extra pleasures and distractions initially, but have perhaps become more cautious with finances as the months have gone on.
