I just watched this movie last night. It's about Joe Bussard, the king of 78 record collectors. It's a really great documentary. It's nice to know that someone like Joe is preserving this type of music, from the 20's and 30's.

I've seen this many times...although I must say the way he "paws" at his one-of-a-kind 78s like they're Kay Kyser red Columbias frightens me a bit, but then, they're his records to handle as he wishes...

Including his method of rather vigorously scrubbing records with a hard, bristly shoe brush to clean them.

They are his records. But it's not 1958 anymore, along with these rare, one of a kind discs still being found in the attics and basements.

There are better, gentler methods.

I've been to Joe's house, and he's an incredible guy with not just an incredible collection, but also an encyclopedia in his brain. I will definitely go back someday. You all should make the trip at some point. He loves visitors. We went to stay for two hours, and were there for at least 3-4.

I've used this in a movie night,cut it down to maybe three quarters length for time. Maybe 30people there,possibly only one other phono guy and everyone loved it. His passion is quite fun and inspiring. And it got me into the music,love the stuff now.

Not that there would be much to cut down.

Wasn't the original release length something like 69 minutes?

I was just getting settled in when it ended, to my disappointment/surprise. But I guess they figured that John or Jane Q. Public wasn't going to have much more attention span to devote to such a topic.

Me, I could watch Joe pawing his collection and talking about old music and records for hours, and not get bored.
