Is this a cylinder carrying case?

I got extremely luck today and bought a big box of 2 min Edison cylinders with an Edison standard. I’m selling the standard locally and Am keeping the records.

So is this a cylinder carrying box?

Also check out this extremely dirty Columbia record. The paper slip was molded into the record

Ink from the paper label has "bled" into the wax during contact not molded into the record

Right... It is interesting though how the box is the perfect height for storing cylinders.

Yes it is an original box for cylinders BUT the compartments have been removed as witnessed by lid marks

The small strips of wood on the front & back panels suggest that maybe a divider could be slipped in. If that's true, I can't see how a divider would play into its use as a cylinder case.

Kind of sorry to see your mention of selling the phonograph. Such interesting history, and you did so well in cleaning the cabinet.

As I mention above, I see only the possibility of there being two compartments of unequal size, but not multiple compartments to adequately separate cylinders.

Just look at the horizontal and vertical lines on the lid where it pressed into the container

I decided against selling it. It's to special . I think this will be a permanent member of my collection.

Should I remake the wooden divider? It is worth mentioning that the lid to the box isn't very study. The rest of the box is, but the lid is rather flimsy.

Would this have had cardboard pegs? Or how would it have held the boxes?
