I am not sure about 'unbuilt' it just looks as if the holes have been plugged.

I saw this yesterday and immediately thought the same thing. Somewhere along the line from lazy or wishful thinking to wilful misrepresentation!

I immediately thought that this was listed by a lunatic... But, in retrospect, I think the seller is trying to say that this "NORMAL" and "UNBUILT" comparison is showing that the case he has for sale is missing the back mount, which should "normally" be attached and that you need one to complete this project. I think the use of the word "unbuilt" indicates that the seller is not an English speaker by birth and is having trouble describing the problem...

I'm not 100% sure of this particular model of HMV, but it is similar to a fancy case Victor MS. If you have the parts to complete this, it should be an easy restoration resulting in a hard to find and desirable machine when completed.

Hahaha, hoist by my own petard - lazy thinking on my part too - reading again, there seems to be an enthusiastic youngster in the background (budding gramophone enthusiast?) and his parents appear to be selling this as being beyond his abilities in whatever way at present...
