Re: Edison Signature on Live Auctioneers
If genuine, it's quite atypical. Perhaps much earlier than the ones usually seen? Without a lot more info I personally wouldn't touch it.

Re: Edison Signature on Live Auctioneers
When I was a brand new collector in the seventies I remember reading of someone prosecuted for stealing Edison's signature. Evidently this person had access to documents at the Edison Site and cut the signature from documents. How sad.

This crook - whose name I can't presently remember - also managed to steal an Edison electric pen. One of only 3 in existence.

There are quite a bit more than 3 Edison electric pens in existence. Well over 30.pallophotophone wrote:Jerry B. wrote:When I was a brand new collector in the seventies I remember reading of someone prosecuted for stealing Edison's signature. I have many Edison signed documents and have personally examined a few hundred in one of the most prominent privately held Edison collections. I wouldn’t touch this signature in the lot with a 10 foot pole.

Well, at least it's spelled correctly... That's something...

Aside from the actual signature, the paper itself, and even the sharp cut cut edges, appear too new to me.
(I recall an eBay auction, some time back, with some Edison related item which was attributed to "Thomas Albert Edison"

Looks like the over swoop on the T was added after the rest, does not look right.
