O/T Used to have a lot to say?

Post by Edisonfan »

Yes I am aware this is "Off Topic", but since there is no " just general discussion" forum on here. This will have to do. ;)

I know I have not had a lot to contribute on here, but as I am not overly involved in my hobby of antique phonographs, like most members on here. I rarely felt the need to post. Unless of course it was relevant to the board. Granted this isn't relevant, but what the hey? Don't get me wrong, this is still a great forum, even if I am not overly active on here.

I usually will not post, unless I have something I want to say or share. Well that's it!

Until next time.

BTW: Has anyone heard from John or David our fearless leaders?

Actually, looking at your number of 433 posts as of this posting, I would say you have made a respectable number of contributions since you first joined!

There was an open and passionate discussion about them and this board this thread about 2 weeks ago.

...but two weeks later appears to be all talk and no action and the board continues to go without proper care and maintenance.

Dean,

Your concerns were addressed quite clearly by David, I thought. This board basically runs itself. Your concerns about moderation and archiving were answered. I'm sure David would be happy to let you help if you ask him. I've had phone conversations with him more than once on the subject, if you or anyone else would like to help, I'd suggest contacting him. I don't have the time and I'm not going to commit to something if I know I can't devote the time to do it properly.

I find this to be a sense of blasting, honestly. David and John did a wonderful job getting this up and running. Archives get behind, things happen, or to quote "life is what happens when you're busy making other plans", as it were. David has already said he will get to archives and such when he can. I don't think it's necessary to keep trying to sully the reputations of those that were involved in making this all happen and, again, why not volunteer your services? You don't have the time, either? :?:

I'm replying to my own comment here because I've just finished re-reading the other thread....David (MorDeth) came right out and stated that if anyone was interested in learning archives and other such things, they should contact him. I'm not speaking for anyone but myself here, and sorry Dean if I came across as harsh, but if anyone is interested in helping out with the board, send David a PM.

My apologies for coming off harsh.

As I mentioned several times in the other thread. John and David have been nothing but informative and friendly. They sacrificed their time, money and resources to build this board.

I am not ungrateful for that. I greatly appreciate it and having this board.

...but they are gone. They no longer have the time to devote to the upkeep of this board. I'm not blaming them, I'm not saying anything wrong has been done.

All I'm saying is that the torch needs to be passed. "The board runs itself" is not acceptable. I contacted John and David 5+ times personally volunteering myself to maintain the archives section... to no avail. It was always "maybe later".

The reason I push these issues is for the love of the hobby, the sharing of information. When John and David were passionate about the board, the board thrived and it was an invaluable and growing resource.

What a waste for the Archive Section, Directions & Manuals Section and the Label Guide to have gone unmaintained for a year now. What great information could have been added in that time.

No doubt all the members are now aware. This will be the last time I bring up the issue.

Thanks for your time, sorry to be a downer.

Paul, we joined this board within a week of each other and I have 66 posts to your 433. As far as I'm concerned you have nothing to apologize for.

What I'm suggesting here to anyone interested in helping out with anything is to send David a PM. I know John has been absent from all things internet for awhile, so sending him messages isn't going to get any response, but I know David checks his messages. If you're serious about taking some things over, just send David a PM. It may take him awhile to respond, but if you're really that passionate about it, be persistent. I agree there is much more that could be done here, but again, I haven't got the time. I honestly wish I did!

We've all made this board what I think is the best one on the internet and while there's always room for more, I think that thanks to everyone here, we're doing pretty well.

Again, sorry if I sounded harsh, but I hate to see these kinds of things happening on here. This is the only phonograph board I really look at any longer because, well, it's the best one, we've got some of the biggest collectors in the world here sharing lots of great information and everyone is friendly.

Maybe I should have rephrased that. I meant, I have not had a lot to say as of late. I mean, I have not posted on here like I used too. :geek:

You know, we all could lend a hand. Especially those of use who have been here since the beginning! If I could do half of the stuff, that Dave has done. I would be willing to help? Even, though both John and David have not been around on here much. I have not seen any real problems. As long as well all look out for each other, this board will continue to grow.
